THERE ARE SPOILERS FROM THE BRETHREN OF ASH CAMPAIGN BELOW!
This deck made it to the end in the Brethren of Ash campaign, played solo on expert difficulty.
Card Choices. I love Loner. It's not an Olivier, but getting it early saves a lot of actions. Old Compass automatically discovers clues (except during a -token), either by itself or sets up "Look what I found!". Right Tool for the Job finds the Compass and also the weapons.
During Scenario 3, I abused Detective Sherman in conjunction with Bandages and Mark of Elokoss to get free clues.
I regret not playing Stalk Prey. The card fits so well in this deck. I also considered Hunter's Instinct, but I believe that needs to be backed up by the aforementioned Stalk Prey to get the full value. Both Rabbit's Foot and Endurance were flex-slots that could have been something more impactful.
The Plan. Meat Cleaver manages horror, Loner saves actions, and the event package finds clues with the help of Old Compass. That's the basic gist. Timing Counterattacks and attacks of opportunity for Daniela's -ability is a skill that will help this deck through the finish line.
Upgrades. Here are the upgrades I made through this play-through:
Upgrades after Scenario 1 (8 XP):
- 2x Overpower → 2x Scrape By (1 XP each)
- 2x Old Compass → 2x Old Compass (2 XP each)
- 1x Endurance → 1x Counterattack (1 XP)
- 1x Rabbit's Foot → 1x Counterattack (1 XP)
Upgrades after Scenario 2 (6 XP):
- 2x Logan Hastings → 2x Detective Sherman
Final Thoughts. With the correct setup, the final showdown against the Queen of Embers should be a breeze. My main focus in Scenario 2 is to defeat the Servant of Flame, which I managed to do here. Even with the Servant around I believe Scenario 3 is manageable.
What are your thoughts? Let me know if there are cards I should have considered!
