This card is really good for Patrice Hathaway seeing as it combos with Patrice's Violin to allow her to make 2 resources or a card and a resource out of what would be a dead draw. The +1 Int is a nice bonus is you're building a cluever deck, and it's backup soak in case you get jumpscared by Watcher from Another Dimension.

It comboes well with other cards Patrice likes → Cornered. (I forgot how to link to cards in comments apparently). You get not only +2 test but also 1 resource. And often times that card you discard you want to be in discard pile anyhow, because it's something line Winging it. — bugiel_marek · 26
She also likes Mind's Eye, which is another that asks to discard. — kavinis · 25
Now that I have a chance to play this in Patrice in one and a half campaigns, I will say that I don't care for it. The effect is decent for the reasons mentioned, but it takes an extra round to pay for itself compared to Labranche and the 1/1 soak means it can't protect plucky. — kavinis · 25

So survivors have:

So ... use your fight / evade / investigate asset, discard your corresponding event, get a resource, play the event.

And you can have your Dark Horse bonus for both actions, the first one at base + 1 vs difficulty and the second one at base + 1 vs difficulty - 2.

You obviously need a bit of card draw to get back the Improvised event.

Edit: Does not not work with Forced Learning as that card is discard out of your turn :(

Edit: Checking the rules if skill cards committed to a test are discarded afterwards from your hand. If so, Lawrence may still be good in a high skill deck.

Would be awesome if our pal Lawrence was chill with discarding cards outside of your turn, unfortunately he is a bit stingy with that sorta thing :( — MaleficMarby · 35
Skill cards are discarded but its from limbo not your hand unfortunately. — Spamamdorf · 5
Please point to the rules section where it says the skill card is in limbo? — smithjas · 1
Limbo (added in FAQ, section 'Game Play', point 1.23) While the effects of an event or treachery card are being resolved, or while a skill is committed to a skill test, it is neither in play, in the discard pile, nor is it in an investigator’s hand. For the purposes of rules clarification, this liminal state is called "limbo." — angesplayer · 56
Thanks. I just found it myself... — smithjas · 1
What about Wendy power when she cancel that chaos token ? Is it working — Chill_03 · 1
@Chill_03 As long as you're using Wendy's redraw *during her turn*, you can use Carlisle's reaction. Wendy is an okay Carlisle user since she can use the book-boost pretty well, but you will want to be proactive about using her ability to make riskier tests and having disposable cards (and even then, using Cornered or Bound for the Horizon for those discard outlets is probably better). Most of the time, Wendy's ability is used more reactively/"for emergencies". Ashcan Pete is a more reliable Carlisle-user, as you want to ready Duke almost every turn and the book-boost is for sure great. — anaphysik · 102
