Hey guys! This is a fun-looking supportive Carolyn deck that I pulled together and wanted to share. It features Carolyn as primarily a clue-gatherer with support options and a fair bit of enemy handling. I generally value Pathfinder a lot so I 've included mechanics which Carolyn can use to deal with enemies on her own without having to rely too much on teammates for combat.
The main idea is that you do the classic clue-gatherer stuff, while your teammates handle the monsters, but you can travel through the map freely using Pathfinder without worrying too much about your own enemies. How we do that:
- Alice Luxley pings for 1 damage when you investigate.
- Blood-Rite deals 2 automatic damage to an enemy at your location.
- Guard Dog deals damage back to the attacker.
- Mano a Mano is a source of instant damage.
Combining these cards together, you can deal with up to 4 (or even 5)-health enemies on your own, but not very often. The point is that you rely on certain cards to do the job for you, so your damage dealing potential is terminal and that means you have to be careful. Also note that all these cards deal automatic damage so you don't have to worry about the chaos bag in most cases while fighting.
How to use them:
-
An invetigate action with an engaged enemy while having Guard Dog and Alice Luxley in play means you 're getting an AoO which will result in a clue and 2 damage to the enemy from Alice Luxley and Guard Dog's abilities. Supplemented by Mano a Mano and Blood-Rite damage count can go even higher.
-
Mano a Mano + Blood-Rite is 3 automatic damage. Add Working a Hunch to trigger Alice Luxley (plus get a clue) and you go up to 4. Alternatively, Scene of the Crime can be in place of Mano a Mano where the automatic damage will come from Alice Luxley instead (both cards need to be used as your first action). In this case though you can't add Working a Hunch in the mix, as you already used Alice Luxley, but you 're also getting 2 clues from Scene of the Crime.
This is as far as combat goes. For clues, you have typical boosting cards in the forms of Hawk-Eye Folding Camera and Alice Luxley and receiving further support from Deduction, Working a Hunch and Keen Eye. Pretty standard stuff.
Lastly, we also have the supportive role, which consists of damage and horror healing via Hallowed Mirror and Logical Reasoning and some encounter card mitigation. "Fool me once..." and Stargazing are great cards to ease the pain of what the encounter deck throws at you and find a few relaxing moments to breathe. There's also Deny Existence and Leadership for further encounter protection and support.
A few notes:
-
Hallowed Mirror can heal Guard Dog for more enemy management.
-
Pathfinder is great but expensive. It's not absoluely necessary to be around but it's a big boon. With it, you can sweep around locations and reach your teammates more easily to heal them or commit a Leadership to their tests.
-
Take the Initiative is great for the mythos phase, but it helps if you try to save it for evasion.
-
Try to save Blood-Rites for enemy handling. Mano a Mano, Alice Luxley and Guard Dog should be enough most of the time, but it's rather good to have them as strong back-up options.
Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy! :)
