Mulligan hard for Magnifying Glass and Dr. Milan Christopher (and possibly Flashlight)
Flashlight, Dr. Milan Christopher and Magnifying Glass combo to essentially give you a +4 to your investigate actions and Fieldwork to give you a further +2 if you investigate right after moving.
Dr. Milan Christopher as primary resource engine with Burglary as back up during off turns when there are no clues to pick up. Resources can be dumped to Hyperawareness to further boost lore for investigating or agility to evade monsters.
Outside of "I've got a plan!" which can deal up to 4 damage, Rex is not equipped to fight monsters. Think on Your Feet, and Elusive allow you to automatically evade/avoid monsters and move to other locations for free (which allow you to investigate even more). Mind over Matter can also be used for evasion.
