ABOUT THIS GUIDE

Last Updated:

Conclusion of the Dream-Eaters Cycle.

How To Use

My "Perfected" guides for each investigator are updated at the end of each campaign cycle. These have all been tested against standard difficulty campaigns and standalone scenarios.

The deck listed shows the final build after spending about 25xp (campaign average). There is a section on how to build the starting deck and recommended upgrade order. Additionally, it lists a trimmed down 9xp standalone variant.

Enjoy.

SUMMARY

Rex Murphy is a clue vacuum. Even after the Taboo errata, he can still quickly and consistantly clean locations of their clues.

This build focuses on team mobility around the board with Open Gate and Shortcut. Then you use In the Know and Connect the Dots to clear the board of clues.

PROS

  • Amazing and abilities! He's a clue finding machine.
  • Focus on helping the team.
  • Testless monster removal.
  • Lots of resources

CONS

  • Requires a teammate to deal with monsters.
  • Rex's Curse can be brutal.
  • not many non- cards to commit.

HOW TO PLAY

ALLIES

Charles Ross, Esq. doesn't get as much love as he deserves. His action stacks each round reducing the cost by 1, then 2, then 3, etc until used. This makes essential high cost items like Fingerprint Kit cost next to nothing! The additional bonus of paying for your allies items is also overlooked, removing some of the burden off resource hungry guardians.

Dr. Milan Christopher has been a seeker staple since the game's beginning and for good reason, the boost and extra resources come in handy.

When combined, you'll have plenty of resources to play your expensive cards.

SCAVENGING

Since you're already trying to beat the shroud value by 2 for Rex's ability, Scavenging is a no brainer. This is key to reusing your items, notably Disc of Itzamna, Ancient Stone, and Fingerprint Kit.

CLUE FINDING

The goal is to first open up the map, then use In the Know and Connect the Dots to collect the clues as fast as possible.

You'll collect about 2+ clues per action by combining Rex's ability, Fingerprint Kit, Deduction, and Connect the Dots.

[TIP]: Uses Rex's ability & Deduction for In the Know's investigate actions. This maximizes its action economy!

[TIP]: After the last clue is removed from a 4+ shroud location Crack the Case can pay for Connect the Dots.

Ghastly Revelation is a last resort, but crucial! Since you are likely the main clue finder, dropping clues when you're defeated is absolutely devestating and dooms the team. This hopefully grabs a few clues (hopefully from a location with victory) & safely passes the clues to a teammate. You can take the mental trauma, Rex have sanity to spades.

FIGHTING ENEMIES

Rex prefers to avoid monsters. He can stop them from spawning on him with Disc of Itzamna.

[TIP]: Ending the round at the same location as a teammate increases the odds of Disc of Itzamna triggering.

Once the disc has been discarded, you can return it to your hand with Scavenging, and can then be played at discount with Charles Ross, Esq..

[TIP]: You can use In the Know to investigate a distant, lower shroud, location to help return Disc of Itzamna with Scavenging.

Ancient Stone is Rex's gun. You simply spend actions to draw a card and ping an aloof enemy or an enemy you're not engaged with. He can also burst-fire an enemy with Occult Lexicon's Blood-Rite, Search for the Truth, or if your lucky, Rex's ability.

TEAMWORK

This build offers a lot of help to your team!

[TIP]: It's best when an Open Gate and Shortcut are on the same location.

Great decklist! I've been loving all of the work you do on these decklists, in fact! One question: what do you think of Archaic Glyphs for this Rex build? With Higher Education it seems like it would snag clues really quick. Is it less desirable because there isn't a way to recur it with scavenging? Thanks again for the post!
