So this is my attempt at a more competent Dexter deck now that I have some more play experience with the game and since Dexter has always been my favorite investigator in older arkham games.

The basic idea is to make sure that he has flexibility in slots. Each asset slot is utilized so that flexibility of play is high. Because of this mulliganing for Molly Maxwell can be important, but there is also some draw power to try and get there. With slot and trait diversity in mind, early intended upgrades would be:

Charon's Obol(Optional)

Charisma (two when you have the spare xp)

Robes of Endless Night

Switchblade (Replacing one Scroll of Prophecies)

Four of Cups

And from there on, primarily upgrading cards, being sure to upgrade at least one spell by a level each scenario of course.

"Watch this!" gives some good resource generation and with Liquid Courage and Alchemical Transmutation you have a couple ways to trigger it even if you don't hit an easy Sixth Sense target or something like that.

Double or Nothing is a great card for mystic. When you make an important check it's so likely that you'll be doing it with . Azure Flame for 4. Spectral Razor or upgraded Azure for 6 damage if you can afford the skill boost to get double difficulty. Alchemical Transmutation for 6 (or 15 if you can spend your "Watch this!" on the same check!) Sixth sense two places for two, or maybe even 3 places with Eldritch Inspiration without even worrying about shroud considering you will be working with the lowest if it triggers.

Eldritch Inspiration works well with Sixth Sense as the main way to gain clues, letting you mop up multiple areas at once. I tend to play two player more often than anything else which is when it seems most useful for grabbing a couple last needed clues or a hard to reach couple to get a victory point. I am toying with the idea of dropping one Sixth Sense for a Clairvoyance and if I were in a four player I am sure I would do just that.

Speaking of, I am unsure about Azure Flame and Clairvoyance compared to the base set versions. On the one hand the more difficult the game, the more likely you are to be safe with one of the new ones over one of the old ones. That said, Eldritch Inspiration also protects you to some degree on the base set cards.
