This is a pure cluever deck that inverts cluevering. Instead of buffing the gator's Int, we're reducing the location's shroud. The most common shroud values are 3, 2, and 4 (in that order). Since Arcane Insight and Vantage Point can stack with Cryptographic Cipher and Flashlight, even a shroud 4 can be reduced to zero. This provides the added bonus of making cluevering possible for even the dumbest monster hunter.

Any seeker can put those cards together. I chose Amanda in order to capitalize on extra uses of skill cards that grant extra effects on success: Deduction, Enraptured, Eureka!, Perception, and Plan of Action.

Other skills are included for Mythos and other random skill tests. Eldritch Sophist is to keep the Cryptographic Cipher and Arcane Insight running, while Emergency Cache keeps Flashlight going. Grisly Totem is for extra draw and emergency buffs.

Be aware that Arcane Insight uses charges and not secrets. The Eldritch Sophist does not convert secrets to charges, so you'd need a different source for them like Feed the Mind.

I love the principle, it's easy to use, intuitive and effective!

It could also be nice to think of a Dream Diary for when the shroud is 4 or higher :)

Also in this deck, I wouldn't use Grisly Totem that is only one use per turn. that I would replace with Arcane Enlightenment to hold my Dream Diary.

Good points, Django and Valentin. I'll switch out Eldritch Sophist and Grisly Totem.

This is for a 2-player speed-run of Return to Dunwich. I'm playing cluever, TheFinalLancer is playing monster hunter (Tommy). We're marathoning the whole thing on Saturday!

I still think the Eldritch Sophist is valid to make the best out of your Cryptographic Cipher, so I personally wouldn't change it :)

I made a version that I adapted from this deck here. I didn't take Promise of Power because I don't use tokens yet, but it is really good here.

Cryptographic Cipher and Flashlight can't be used together as both are separate investigate actions. Arcane Insight can be combined with them, as it's ability is a free action.

Did you consider Emergency Cache 3 upgrade? It give you more supplies for your Flashlights.

Ariadne's Twine could be an upgrade replacement for Eldritch Sophist to generate more secrets, if you don't need more resources.

A friend of mine used Dream Diary in amanda and it was pretty helpful, having +4 to all skills every other turn. Though your shroud reduction rules out "dreams of an explorer", but with your card draw, "dreams of a child" could work.

Have you considered Otherwordly Compass as an upgrade, perhaps to at least replace the Flashlights? It could also combo with Arcane Insight.

The Otherworldly Compass is interesting even though situational, but unfortunately it exhausts so it’s only one usage a turn. But it’s indeed a thematic upgrade :)

If this is a Dunwich deck, what’s your plan for Beyond the Veil? Between Amanda’s innate draw and general Seeker stuff, she’s more at risk than most.

Yeah the flashlight is weirdly advantageous in that you can burn through its battery in one turn if you need to.
