Welcome to my Sefina Black Fan deck. The concept behind this deck is straightforward: use Sefina's The Painted World ability to play events that generate resources, and amass 20 or more resources to power up cards such as The Black Fan, Well Connected, Cunning and High Roller, among others.

This deck works as a typical big money rogue, with the advantage of being able to play the same resource event up to 4 times! That difference speeds the resource farming process a lot. This deck also uses Underworld Support to increase the chances of finding Hot Streak (4) in our opening hand, without needing to buy two copies. Many events on this deck, such as Backstab, Sneak Attack and Breaking and Entering are situational to what our party needs.

Although this a level 0 deck, it works as the structure for the higher level deck which only needs 10 XP to start working out. With that 10 XP we are going to buy Hot Streak (4) and The Black Fan. Once we got them the idea is the following:

  • Place any resource generating event under Sefina (preferibly Hot Streak (4)) to try to get to 20 resources as fast as possible.
  • Spend the first and second turn trying to set up (an ideal first turn would be: 1st action Unscrupulous Loan, 2nd action Hot Streak (4) (using The Painted World), 3rd action Leo De Luca and 4th action The Black Fan. On your second turn you can draw Hot Streak (4) or play it again with The Painted World. Now you got 20+ resources, five actions per turn and +1 to all your skill values.
  • If you don't draw Hot Streak (4) and at least a copy of The Painted World in your first hand you won't be able to gather the 20+ resources as fast as I mentioned, but don't worry, the deck still works out and you will be able to gather the 20+ resources, just at a slower pace.

You may struggle the first two scenarios since this deck need a lot of resources to shine and you won't have the engine to generate them at first. I suggest you start focusing on evading and gathering some clues by using Lockpicks and Thieves' Kit.

The upgrade path in my opinion is the following:

  • Hot Streak (4). Absolutly busted with Sefina. Can get us up to 28 resources using 5 actions.
  • The Black Fan. Once we got 20+ resources it provides amazing value.
  • Lockpicks (1) An amazing upgrade for only 1 XP.
  • High Roller Once we got out resources set, this card will help us a lot to make safer and bigger tests.
  • Double, Double. Another amazing card. Play it with Hot Streak (4) to get 17 resources with one action. Note that this asset can't be used with The Painted World.
  • The Moon • XVIII. Since we are playing Underworld Support, the chances of drawing this on our first hand are pretty high, so it's a good way to boost our .
  • Lucky Cigarette Case (3). Since we are going to use Well Connected and High Roller we are probably going to success tests by a lot, so this upgrade is amazing to find an specific card.
  • Well Connected (3) On important tests, spending 2 resources to add at least +5 to a skill value is very worth it.
  • Stylish Coat if you get to play this card early you can get an extra resource once per turn every time you use High Roller. The damage soak is also useful.
  • Money Talks (2). This card can be a life saver for your and your allies. Remember you can play it using The Painted World.
  • Streetwise (3) Another way to use resources to buff our skill values. 6 XP is a lot, so I would only buy only it if I got plenty of XP. We got many efficient ways to buff our tests without actually spending resources.
  • Upgrades on events like Breaking and Entering (2), Backstab (3), Sneak Attack (2) and similar, since we are going to succed tests by a lot, these events will frequently return to our hands. If you have enough XP, you could get Chuck Fergus and Charisma in order to get the maximum profit of them.

Comments on some lvl 0 cards:

  • Gregory Gry You probably won't play him if you have Leo De Luca in hand. But it is an interesting bet to generate an extra amount of resources (works very well with Stylish Coat).
  • Embezzled Treasure I see this card as a lvl 0 Another Day, Another Dollar. The action cost to play it can be painful given the situation, but being able to start the next scenario with 5 extra resources its an interesting option.
  • Investments Another card that depends on being drawn early. If you get it early, you can get 7+ resources and have enough time to capitalize it.
  • Lone Wolf This card gets more value as the player count decreases. It is still good at 4 players.
  • Streetwise Paying two resources for a +2 on a skill test is really expensive. Also costs an action to play it. In the first scenarios when we don't have The Black Fan, so we don't have to be that careful with keeping resources over 20, this card can be a interesting option.
  • All the level 0 events, except for the resource generating ones and Quantum Flux, are situational and should be selected within the neccesities of your party/campaign.
  • "Watch this!" this card has an special non-written effect. It summons the . Handle with care.
  • Double or Nothing If you are using current taboo list, you can replace this card with another skill card that you feel suiting, or an useful event ;). Otherwise I find this card to also be an magnet.

You can also consider playing cards that benefit from you playing many actions, like Calculated Risk. I haven't tried these, so I will just leave it as a comment.

Pros of the deck:

  • High versatility
  • Completely busted once set up (5 actions every turn, 6 base agility and the ability to buff any skill value up to a minimum of +6).
  • Very effective for "succed by" cards.
  • Can take clues for high veiled places (using Lockpicks you get a skill base of 9)

Cons of the deck:

  • If you don't draw Hot Streak (4) on the opening hand, your development slows down a lot.
  • Needs at very least 10 XP to start being effective.
  • You cannot deal lots of damage except from events, neither can you gather at the same consistent speed of a .

I haven't tried this deck on True Solo, so I can't make comments on it's performance.

Conclusion: This decks focus on playing The Black Fan and Hot Streak (4) in order to get plenty of actions and succed tests by a lot. Once is setup is kinda breaks the game. I found it very fun to play, even with it may feel sluggish on the first scenarios.

I hope you like this deck! Let me know if you try it out. Cheers.

PD: Get yourself something to replace resources tokens or have a token to represent 10 resources; you will need it ;). My resource record on one scenario was 56, let me know yours.
