What if Ashcan Pete had money?
This deck is built around the idea of using Dark Horse to provide an impressive boost to Duke's, sorry, Pete's statistics. Typically, though, this leaves him impoverished.
To counteract this, we've got Madame Labranche and Lone Wolf. At the end of the mythos phase and start of the investigator phase, these two could, optionally, offer Pete 2 resources to spend (and I'm pretty sure this is legal!). On what, you ask, given the number of skills in the deck?
Well, Fire Axe is there from the beginning, and early upgrades should include Scrapper and Plucky; combined, this gives coverage of all 4 stats, and you'll want them to make sure that Dark Horse is functioning.
And that, basically, is the plan. Otherwise, the cost curve is fairly low - there aren't that many expensive cards, and this should let Pete get on with winning the game without much set-up.
Fire Axe is in as an alternate weapon to Duke; ideally you want to use Duke for investigating, and action compression dragging Pete around. And Lantern is there to make Duke's investigations more effective. Rabbit's Foot is in more as a placeholder for the upgraded one (when it becomes available), as investigating blind is bound to fail sometimes.
Peter Sylvestre is in as an ally as a) he's an awesome horror sink, and b) his upgrade will again boost stats further.
Events - well, I added them as they're both often useful, and though they lack Icons, Pete can still use them as Duke fodder, readying him.
Lastly, we've got a stack of skills. Double or Nothing is in to combine with Vicious Blow, Fire Axe, or possibly just a really boosted investigate, for action compression. Resourceful is there to retrieve essential cards from the discard pile, and the conventional skills are there to add draw, to get to the Dark Horse, Lone Wolf and Ally cards.
Upgrades? Scrapper and Plucky x2, and then... knock yourself out. Probably upgraded Peter Sylvestre, and then there's a good range of survivor cards. Flare might be very useful for setup, retrieving Madame Labranche.
I've not tested this out, yet, but it should be interesting. The main problem could be Lone Wolf in a multiplayer game; it can be hard to be alone. I'll report back after testing a bit.

Jan 17, 2018Damn, forgot that about Lantern. Good Point. For solo, I'd consider Newspaper as a good bet, but for multiplayer, I think that could be less useful. I'd prefer to keep the Double or Nothings for action compression at important times. |
It should be noted you can't combine lantern's investigate action with Duke's investigate action. They both have the action arrow, so only one can be used per action.
In this deck, I would probably swap the double or nothing for magnifying glass as they will stand with Duke.
