Fight!
Your main weapons is Meat Cleaver, which can be charged up very safely if Peter Sylvestre joins you. Even without Pete's great soak it can work by itself if carefully managed to heal yourself with killing blows.
Fire Axe and .18 Derringer ware backups, slated for removal with future upgrades.
Even without a weapon your events can carry you pretty far. Hit them with Improvised Weapon or One-Two Punch.
Save yourself actions with "Get over here!". This card is especially helpful for dealing with your weakness, "Where's Pa?".
Boost your damage with Long Shot.
Recur these events with Scrounge for Supplies. If Stouthearted somehow gets drawn, you can recur that, too.
Survive!
Peter Sylvestre will soak lots of horror over time, but also boosts your for additional encounter deck protection. Leverage your multiple lives by getting to use Talisman of Protection and Perseverance twice as much as everyone else.
Commit Guts for that extra often needed against the encounter deck. Your +1UP! makes Say Your Prayers less situational.
Commit Stunning Blow when the damage is coming in too quickly.
Thrive!
Get a few extra resources for yourself and others with Stand Together.
A happy problem is you will rarely fail tests. But when you have a free moment you can nearly always fail a basic investigation to use Take Heart for cards and resources and trigger Rabbit's Foot for a card.
Use the Sparrow Mask for help resisting the encounter deck, or if, Yog-Sothoth forgive us, you need to evade something.
Team Up!
Use Flashlight and "Look what I found!" in various permutations to get the occasional clue.
Get monsters off them safely with "Get over here!".
Grant teammates some resources with Stand Together.
With your investigator ability you can take damage for your friends. You can also play Talisman of Protection on them if you have to wander off sometimes.
Mulligan!
Highest priority is a weapon, preferably Meat Cleaver. Next, get Peter Sylvestre and then Sparrow Mask.
Upgrade!
First, become more immortal by taking Charisma and replacing your Talisman of Protection cards with Jessica Hyde.
Next replace the .18 Derringer cards with Fire Extinguisher.
After that you're on your own!
Just as a short note, your description says to boost your with Sparrow Mask, but Sparrow Mask does not interact with Combat tests.
