What campaign? And how do you play around Finn's of 1?

Was testing him out as a soloist for the core set; big mistake bc of the 1. I try to save all my commits towards willpower or go as fast as possible to avoid mythos phases (rotting remains).

Other than that, most story progression doesn't require as much tests so it's just hoping you can tank the horror from failing. As fun as Finn is, he seems to really need a buddy for willpower.

@redcrownNo problem. Have you considered Logical Reasoning for two of your 5 non- cards? The core set in particular can be rather rough on Finn, both Rotting Remains and Frozen in Fear can be devastating.

I don't know if you have every expansion, but here's how I would build Finn for the Core Set (solo). Couple of notes:

  • I'm not playing Guts. I think that even in "Skids" O'Toole, Guts can be reasonable. But Finn ends up at a 3 unless he can commit more than one card. Instead, try to figure out how you deal with the treacheries you are going to fail: Rotting Remains can instead do 1 horror to Peter Sylvestre and 2 to you, so that's already way better. Frozen in Fear get's dealt with by Logical Reasoning.

  • The deck isn't running any weapons. I think both the .41 Derringer and the Switchblade at level 0 are quite bad. The upgraded versions (Switchblade and .41 Derringer) are reasonable cards, but I would hestitate to put either in my deck unless I was sure I needed to have a weapon. Instead, play Sneak Attack and Backstab.

  • You also seem to be playing a lot of enemy-killing cards and barely anything to grab clues. Flashlight should be a 2x in solo, and even in the list I linked above I would make sure I grab Streetwise or Lockpicks as my first XP purchase so I at least can handle getting clues. You have 4 weapons and 7 events that deal with enemies. That's waaay too many. On average you will only draw about two enemies in the entire scenario.

  • Yeah, that was the reasoning I had for not including Guts. I haven't actually thought about Logical Reasoning nor Peter Sylvestre (I'm usually not the person in my group that uses those, so I forgot). I will include those in a remake after I finish through the Core Campaign with this deck.

  • I'm okay with the two .41 Derringer and Switchblade, commits and fast bring out a weapon. I have both Sneak Attack and Backstab, but hesitate to solely rely on those due to lessons learned in previous games. My group didn't have a dedicated guardian, so we didn't have a consistent way to deal with enemies, and our rogue would run out of gas to survive without a weapon.

  • I'll look to balance that out; too used to building for multiplayer so I expect a barrage of enemies. Lockpicks I admittedly overlooked and I debated Flashlight x2 versus other cool rogue events I don't often play, and Finn's nat 4 .

This is much more feedback than I expected for a throwaway deck I was testing for fun, so thank you for your advice! I'll be changing things up in my actual playthrough with this in mind.
