Now that we have the whole Dunwich cycle I realized you don't really have to kill any of the bosses to "win" the scenarios. So I tried an evasion-centered build without any fighting power. The only exception I made for the Broods of Yog-Sothoth, as they don't really use .

Card choices:

Holy Rosary: helps with -treacheries

Shortcut: A fantastic "control" card. Engaged enemies move with you, so in combination with Elusive or the later added Cat Burglar or standard evasion you can positon the enemies wherever you want them to be.

Delve Too Deep: rather essential, as you lose quite a bit of XP by not killing anything.

Campaign notes:

All together it was a really fun and refreshingly different play-through. You have to think quite a bit more about when and where to move, whom to evade and who to simply avoid, instead of just killing off everything the encounter deck throws at you.

Scenario 1A: Extracurricular Activity: 3xp (1x Delve, 2x VP location)

R2:

  • Professor Warren Rice was kidnapped.
  • the students were rescued.

Scenario 2A: The House Always Wins: 2xp (1x Delve, 1x VP location)

With the help of "I'm outta here!" managed to get Peter Clover out. As time is extremly scarce when playing this scenario second, I totally intended to "cheat", but some lucky gambling draws helped me to avoid the -token.

R3:

  • Naomi has the investigators’ backs.
  • Dr. Francis Morgan was kidnapped.
  • the investigators rescued Dr. Henry Armitage.

Scenario 3:The Miskatonic Museum: 5xp (1x Delve, 4x VP location)

I rotated the Lone Wolfs out, since I had more than enough resources in the first two scenarios. But I clearly underestimated the resource hunger of Streetwise. Therefore I later put Lone Wolf and Burglary back in. I allmost ran out of time in the end and had to resign.

R0:

  • the investigators failed to recover the Necronomicon.

Scenario 4: Essex County Express: 2XP (2x VP location)

Smooth run, I reached the Engine Car with only 2 Train cars lost.

Scenario 5: Blood on the Altar: 5xp (1x Delve, 1x VP location, 2 story XP) I purchased a second Adaptable, to allow for additional specialization for this and the next scenarios. Here the Deduction + Double or Nothing combo cleared The Hidden Chamber with three investigation actions.

R3:

Scenario 6: Undimensioned and Unseen: 4xp (1x Delve, 3x Brood)

card swaps, e.g. Contraband, were made to maximize icons

3 Brood of Yog-Sothoth were dispatched rather quickly, the fourth had 3 Towering Beasts on it, so I resigned way before the time ran out.

R1:

  • 1 brood escaped into the wild.

Scenario 7: Where Doom Awaits 2xp (1x VP location)

Although the investigating part wasn't a problem, it still was a bit tricky to reach the Sentinel Peak due to some hunters trying to get there, too. Once there I had enough health/sanity left to simply ignore Seth Bishop.

R1:

  • the investigators entered the gate.

Scenario 8:Lost in Time and Space

I almost managed to get out, having evaded two Yithian Starseeker at Another Dimension, ending the turn on a Tear Through Space with a clear path to the exit. But the next mythos phase gifted me a Collapsing Reality throwing me right back to the two Starseekers without the necesarry resources/cards to get away from them again.

But at least the world has been saved:

R2:

  • The investigators win the campaign...and are never seen or heard from again.

Cool playthrough! I'm gonna have to try a pacifist run myself. I imagine it would be pretty easy to do a pacifist run on NotZ, up until the final scenario where you would have to stop the ritual.

@N146: Could indeed be a bit of a challenge, as you're guaranteed to meet The Masked Hunter again. But if you manage to get a Shortcut + Cat Burglar/Elusive combo out on the cultist gang you might have just enough time to stop the ritual. Oh my, I think there goes my next weekend ...

I am very happy that others try new paths, too! I would .... yes, i would BET on that you won't succeed in the Night of the Zealot with a pacifist build AND stopping the ritual! I have made several attempts in the Night, and, myself, i only managed to come to the other resolutions. It is necessary to investigate thoroughly at the Midnight Masks, because the last scenario starts with plenty of doom if you fail to interrogate all cultists. And as you mentioned, a pacifist build will be in trouble with the Masked Hunter. (I would say: kill him, it's self-defense!) Good luck, Scheckel!

I guess part of thing in NoTZ is if you consider using the Parley actions on the cultists as a "kill"
