Discipline

Here I am being extremly suprised this is least popular option among all of other Discipline options... compared to what? +5? I can draw 5 cards and get +5 as I commit cards to next skill test. This card is great if you are playing event heavy Lily where you keep running out of cards and it just keeps refueling you.You draw so fast I ran Quantum Flux to not get extra horror when I run out of cards(or delay my weakness draws if they are at bottom of deck and I drew most of my deck). Sure +1 knowladge isn't great... but who cares about +1 when you can draw an entire opening hand value of cards when you just had NO CARDS! Get Sign of Xelotaph with Spiritual Resolve and Hallowed Mirror and you are golden.

Downsides:Hard to unflip, and gets her to 3 in a minor stat. — MrGoldbee · 1497
If you could commit an entire hand to tests it should be rather easy. I am curious to try such deck. It sounds fun. — ConstructorPL · 1
@MrGolbee it is not that hard if you are playing a deck that is playing cards really quickly and its "unflip" condition is a situation that you want to play the discipline again anyway. It unflips at perfect moment! As soon as you run out of cards to play this allows you to fill your hand again by unflipping. In my games when I pick this I use it 3-4 times unless scenario is short — Makaramus · 10
How is it hard to unflip? Just use your cards instead of hoarding them. — Spamamdorf · 5
If I want 5 cards a turn I play Patrice. — MrGoldbee · 1497
Can't play Patrice in a Lily deck though. — AlderSign · 423
This does combo well with Quick Shot, by the way. — AlderSign · 423
@MrGoldbee Patrice is a 4 2 2 2 character that is using red heavy deck while Lily is a purple starting then morphing into blue deck. Patrice will never have access to Spiritual resolve or Hallowed mirror and you will be at best subpar fighter if you ever become one. — Makaramus · 10
I also forgot to mention: Patrice HAS TO discard her entire hand she can't say "I am gonna keep these for next turn". We have the option to hold onto that card for 3 turns if its important for future. Yes Patrice is a character that draws better but lets be honest its not a good comparison because Patrice has her own weaknesses like inabilty to keep cards in hand — Makaramus · 10
Monterey Jack

This alternate Monty seems like a good candidate for Hyperphysical Shotcaster in solo play:

  • 5 in a base stat to take full advantage of the shotcaster for combat. Sure, you can usually just evade, but for grabbing VPs from enemies, or times where evasion isn't an option, this is nice.
  • His gator ability lets him dig for it.
  • Realitycollapser covers his weakness to treacheries that stay in your play area (Frozen in Fear being a good example of one that is hard to clear and a huge problem).
  • The action compression from Translocator is good in solo

In 3~4 players where one of you is likely getting an enemy, I've repeatedly benefited from engage. It's great even when you are not getting any free move out of it but even better if you could and want to move there anyway. You can strategically spend your action for something else and stay behind on purpose expecting that your bigger group will draw at least an enemy for you to move to.

The has a few more tricks that let you move even more than you're supposed to, you can utilize Hunter enemy's move (to other players) to stretch the distance by triggering in the Enemy Phase. You do have to engage it and take the hit, but maybe you can save someone else from getting hit doing that.

In Mythos Phase, if prior player nearby draws an enemy and you draws a test, you can even move before the test in order to get their commits and maybe additional +1 if enemy is Creature or Monster.

Bum's Rush

Rogue has several stats combination Event : Slip Away, Cheap Shot, Breaking and Entering. This is similar to Slip Away except with different stats pair. That's welcomed because now either intellect-leaning or combat-leaning Rogue can get a high accuracy Evade, which is helpful in high player count boss fights or enemies laden with keywords and while-ready effects.

However note that Bum's Rush has 3 effects : exhaust, bonus damage (over success), and push. Slip Away has just 2 effects : exhaust, and long evade (over success). I think in many dicey situations, the "push" in Bum's Rush and "long evade" in Slip Away is the desirable outcome so you don't have to deal with it again too soon. Though both doesn't work with Elite, Bum's Rush "push" is not gated by over-success like Slip Away "long evade", so the spent 2 resources for Bum's Rush is more likely to work without additional commits. You can also push non-Hunter away and stop worrying about it. 1 damage is a nice bonus, and if that brings HP down to nice number and you intended to finish it, you can decide not to push with the "may" clause.

However if you decided to push and they have Hunter, they do get priority attack if they just move in and hit you the next round, unless you move further away or move into it.

I see this more as the counterpart to Cheap Shot, because of the stats in question and 2 matching effects (evade and damage). But at this point it's just a matter of philosophy, I guess. — AlderSign · 423
Mortar and Pestle

Making this card belong to Seekers is a baffling decision: there just aren't that many spell cards in their class, and some of them cost 0 already (https://arkhamdb.com/find?q=k%3Aspell+f%3Aseeker&decks=player)

I get Agatha is a Seeker but she is also a Mystic. so I don't see the reason why to gate this card to be Seeker-only: it should be Mystic or double class

This already suffers from the issue of other economy cards (if you draw it early, great! If you draw it later in the level, it's useless), and it's only useful if you are planning to Investigate/discover clues, but printing it as a Seeker-only card kill all of its utility.

Right now the only people I can see this being even remotely okay on are Seekers with Mystic access, like Daisy, or Mystics with Seeker access, like Marie and Luke

I think the decision is pretty okay, there are a lot of Spell cards available to investigators who can take this. Heck, even Finn can even pay for Blur or Suggestion with this. — AlderSign · 423
